As a CRS alum of Stendis, you owe a great amount of gratitude to the George E. Jonas Foundation (GEJF). GEJF operates the CRS camp in Stendis and has done so, since the first season in 2001. Inspired by the American Louis August Jonas Foundation (LAJF), the Danish alumni association CRSAAD founded GEJF on March 2, 1996. GEJF is named after the founder of the CRS program George Edward Jonas. GEJF is managed by a board consisting of alumni of Camp Rising Sun. GEJF and the Stendis camp are both operated independently of LAJF and the American camps in Red Hook and Clinton. However, LAJF administrates the entire CRS alumni database. This means that also alumni of Stendis are eligeble for LAJF activities, such as scholarships and ARISE grants. For a complete history of GEJF, please visit the subpage ”History.” The aim of GEJF is to run the CRS summer program, in order to promote international understanding, tolerance and cooperation on a humanistic and democratic basis. While GEJF is run as an independent institution, the summer program at Stendis is established and executed with great consideration to the history of CRS and to some extend the mission of LAJF. Please visit the subpages "Program" and "Mission" for a thorough introduction to the theories behind the program. Contrary to its sister and brother camps in Red Hook and Clinton, Stendis is committed to inviting a more internatinal camper body and with a greater concentration of Europeans rather than Americans. Furthermore, GEJF is operated significantly different from LAJF, as it depends entirely on fundraising in contradiction to an endowment. For more information about GEJF, please visit: www.gejf.dk |
